History & Background
We enjoy helping small businesses to improve their cashflow and grow by providing guidance on their profitability and improving efficiencies within their business so that they have clarity, control and lifestyle they desire.
Michael Jenke is an Accountant with over 25 years experience being an integral part of small businesses in a variety of industries, helping them with bookkeeping & understanding what numbers mean.
Michael’s career started out in 1992 as an accounts clerk for a national importer / wholesaler and quickly progressed to being the group accountant after a few years. In 2005 the family purchased a busy retail post office & newsagency with lotto which allowed him to develop his business skills further and being responsible for growing the business by continually improving business systems and managing key stakeholders including 8 staff members.
In 2011 Michael started helping other small businesses to understand their numbers and improve efficiencies within the business with his first few clients being shoppers at his retail business. After growing the retail business for 10 years, it was sold in 2016 and Michael with the help of his wife Adrianne focused on their bookkeeping consultancy business and haven’t looked back since.
As registered BAS Agents, not only are we insured and licensed to prepare Activity Statements, but we are also continually trained to deal with everchanging legislation.
Michael & Adrianne also enjoys property investing with subdivision and renovation projects being completed since 2016. Managing these projects require bookkeeping & timing skills to correctly account for GST & maximising profitability.
Let us at Smart Figures take away any bookkeeping anxieties you may have by providing you with consistent and reliable information that we can help you base decisions around.

Mission Statement
To help businesses grow by empowering them around their finances so that they have clarity, freedom and control.
Core Values
Team Standards
Our bookkeepers are required to fulfill four standards – education, experience, testing & training:
We have all been let down by bookkeepers who claimed that they were proficient in QBO, Xero & MYOB, but we found the opposite was true when they started the processing. So we now use the Pure Bookkeeping Skills Assessment to test the applicant’s proficiency in the respective software and general bookkeeping skills. This must be completed successfully before they have an interview. That has helped enormously to weed out inexperienced candidates. Once selected they complete the Pure Bookkeeping Training Module – an intensive theoretical and practical training in all aspects of the Pure Bookkeeping System before qualifying starting as one of our bookkeepers.
Since 2010 all bookkeepers providing a BAS Service are required to register as a BAS Agent.
The requirements of a BAS Agent are:
What does that mean for you?
In the past, a bookkeeper was able to complete a QBO/Xero/MYOB course and start charging for their services. Unfortunately, due to their lack of experience, they often left a mess. The client could do nothing about it except find someone else who, hopefully, would be able to clean up the mess. It is a costly exercise both financially and emotionally.
As a BAS Agent, there is a professional Code of Conduct in relation to:
Breaching the Code of Conduct can result in termination of the registration and Civil Penalties involving fines up to $137,500. At last there is something that can be done if you are left in a mess.
We are Registered BAS Agents so that may give you confidence in the numbers, but the Team at Smart Figures believes that great bookkeeping is not just about getting the compliance right … it’s about empowering you around your finances!
